HMates is a great online community that provides users with a safe and friendly environment for STD daters to find friendship, fun and more. The site is specifically geared up to support sufferers of HSV and HPV, and despite the fact that it is totally free to join and use, it still has a good collection of features that are ideally suited to those with STD's who want to get back into the dating game.

HMates is completely free to join, with the site being largely supported by the generosity of donors who have benefited from using the site in the past (testament to the fact that many users have found love here). As the site is free to join, it’s a great place to begin your online dating journey (especially if you’re not sure if this kind of dating is for you).

HMates.com comes complete with a good selection of features. HMates users can create their own profile, complete with an unlimited number of member photos. Users can even add member videos to your profile to illustrate what they are really like and offer other users an introduction to their personality.

In this way, profiles on HMates really go a long way towards representing an individual (as far as that is possible on the internet), allowing people to feel that they can get to know a person a little from their profile and introductory videos.

Users can share virtual kisses with other users too, letting them know that they might be interesting in taking things a little further, which is a good way to break the ice. 

HMates users also have access to a great quality live-chat function, which operates in exactly the same way as many commonly used online chat services (like MSN), and allows users to get in contact with each other through HMates to conduct an actual conversation.

There is also a great 2-way matchmaking service which lets users answer a range of relationship and lifestyle questions, with the answers given being used to 'hook up' users on the site with others that they are ideally matched to.

Finally, there is a directory of STD treatment locations which can be really helpful for users of this particular dating organization. A wide range of specialist articles, help sheets and STD news allow users to get information about how best to manage their illness, too. 

We enjoyed using HMates but did have one or two issued with the site that we think lets the site down a touch. The first is that users are required to wait 24 hours for a profile verification process to take place, during which time they can’t access the site. Secondly, the verification process is a little over-sensitive and, in many cases (including ours) seems to require users to speak on the telephone with site administrators. While we can see the importance of profile verification, many users won’t want to have a discussion with a member of site staff within the first 24 hours of membership, so this is a little disappointing. 

HMates is free to join and use, meaning there’s little stopping you signing up and giving the site a try.
