I'm a 35 year old Male that was diagnosed with HSV2 about a year ago after using a well known dating website. Having used the Internet to get me into this "situation", I decided early on that I was going to use the internet to get me out of it. Soon after my diagnosis I found myself on HMates. It was nice to find a community of people that were dealing with some of the same issues as myself. It doubled as a way to meet potential dates as well as additional support.
Having used several other dating websites, there were many features HMates offered that stood out for me. Setting up my profile and uploading profile pictures was very easy. There were many questions about what I like and what I'm interested in which I've found are a great as they've come up in conversations I've had with potential mates and have acted as "icebreakers". Being a Donor member allows you to send emails to other members. Being able to search and see other peoples profile pictures only makes you want to be a donor member that much more so you can send that first email to a potential mate. I also love that HMates lets you see who's viewing your profile, I've found that useful especially if someone keeps viewing my profile. I typically send them a message, or at least send them a "kiss" or add them as a "favorite" as means of making the first move or to gauge interest. The home page essentially gives you an overview of not only account activity, but site activity as well which is awesome to use while I'm on my iphone, I don't have to keep downloading pages after pages like other sites, It gives me a forum to check what I want to see without wasting my time, which as a busy person and a consumer is important to me.
I've met some potential mates from HMates and at the least we've stayed friends and continue to support each other even though we didn't make the "Ultimate Connection". Having Herpes or other STD's is hard enough without trying to meet or date someone, HMates gives me/us a forum run by a great customer support group where we can be ourselves and connect with others without the stereotypes or social stigmas typically associated with what we are dealing with. I just wish more people who had STD's would branch out and put themselves out there. All in all, HMates has been my favorite online dating website and to be honest I don't know what I would've done if it didn't exist.
